DJI FPV, a first-person view drone, is now available in Nepal. Let's delve into its specifications, features, availability, and official pricing in the Nepali market.
DJI FPV Overview:
Design and Build:
DJI has prioritized delivering an immersive FPV experience with the DJI FPV, and in doing so, sacrificed its portability. Unlike other drones from DJI, this FPV model doesn't fold into a more compact form. However, the propellers are removable for easier storage.
The DJI FPV drone weighs 795 grams, including the propellers, with a diagonal distance of 245mm. DJI boasts that this design is aerodynamic and resistant to wind. Notably, its landing legs feature customizable LEDs for added flair.

DJI FPV Goggles V2:
The core of the FPV experience lies in the DJI FPV Goggles V2, resembling something straight out of the Blade Runner universe. These goggles, available separately for $569, complete the FPV package, bringing the total combo price to $1299.
DJI breaks away from the norm by using a digital signal for data transmission between the drone and the goggles. This digital signal facilitates long-distance transmission. Despite the inherent latency of digital signals, DJI mitigates this with their O3 (OcuSync 3.0) technology.
Long-Distance Transmission:
DJI promises a transmission range of up to 10km with varying latencies depending on the mode. In high-quality mode, which offers 1440×810p videos, the latency is around 40ms. You can capture footage at 60fps with a 142º Field Of View (FOV) or at 50fps with a 150º FOV. For reduced latency, switch to the low-latency mode, which brings the delay down to as low as 28ms.
The low-latency mode also allows for slow-motion video capture at either 100/120fps with 150º or 142º FOV, respectively. The DJI FPV Goggles V2 boasts an 1800mAh battery with a rated backup time of around 110 minutes. Additionally, you can connect up to 8 goggles simultaneously, allowing others to experience the drone pilot's view. To ensure interference-free flying, the DJI FPV drone incorporates anti-interference technology and high-gain antennas. It also employs dual-frequency transmission (2.4/5.8GHz) with a bitrate of up to 50Mbps.
It's worth noting that DJI recommends using the 2.4GHz band in most regions due to limited availability of the other frequency band worldwide. In case of signal loss between the drone and goggles, the DJI FPV is equipped with fail-safe RTH (Return To Home) mode. The ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) technology helps avoid potential collisions by scanning and receiving flight location information from air units that transmit ADS-B signals.
DJI FPV Remote Controller 2:
To control the drone's movement, the DJI FPV drone comes bundled with the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 (Mode 2), available for $199. Weighing 346 grams, it houses a battery with approximately 9 hours of endurance.

Interestingly, all components feature an intelligent battery feature that automatically discharges the charge after a few days to prolong the battery's effective charge cycle. Syncing the controller with the drone ensures minimal delay, with a response time of just 7ms.
DJI FPV Motion Controller:
For a unique flying experience, DJI offers an optional motion controller that requires only one hand to operate. It allows you to control the drone's movement using hand gestures, with a trigger button for acceleration and a dedicated button for take-off and landing. The point controller mechanism, controlled by a central circle on the goggles' console, manages the drone's fixed camera.

The motion controller also features an emergency brake and hover button, providing an instant and stable halt to the drone to prevent accidents.
Flight Modes:
The DJI FPV drone offers three different flight modes tailored to various user levels.
N (Normal) Mode: Designed for new users, this mode offers traditional drone flight controls and includes safety-oriented features like obstacle sensing.
S (Sport) Mode: Combines manual control with a simplified control mechanism for an intermediate level of control.
M (Manual) Mode: Geared towards experts, this mode unlocks the full potential of the drone but disables all sensors and hovering features. In M Mode, the DJI FPV can reach speeds of up to 140 kph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 2 seconds.
Camera:
The DJI FPV is equipped with a 12MP 1/2.3” CMOS image sensor and a 3mm format equivalent lens with an f/2.8 aperture. It can capture 4K photos and videos with a maximum video bitrate of 120 Mbps. The single-axis (tilt) gimbal incorporates RockSteady EIS technology for stabilized recordings. In terms of resolution, it can shoot 4K footage at either 50/60fps or FHD 1080p videos at 50/60/100/120fps.
